Land Clearing Services in Granbury
Pruitt Range & Brush provides land clearing, lot clearing, brush removal, stump grinding and rough grading for residential and commercial properties in Granbury, TX and the surrounding area. The list runs six items:
- Cedar mulching and selective clearing on ranchettes: cedar out, live oak and post oak kept.
- Lake lots and residential land clearing for a homesite above the Brazos, rough grade and cleanup included.
- Commercial land clearing services and commercial clearing for commercial sites and commercial development along US 377 and SH 144.
- Pasture reclaim, property clearing and professional clearing on 10 to 100 acres of mesquite and cedar.
- Tree removal of stems to 8 inches with the mulcher; larger trunks cut and hauled.
- Full site clearing, site preparation, land improvement and landscape clearing to the rough grade.
Site work stops at the rough grade on every project. Excavation for foundations, wells, septic and house demolition are other trades, and I know people who do them. What our professional land clearing service brings to a cedar tract is the canopy reading. Mature cedar intercepts the first inch of rain, and AgriLife research has measured it; take a ranch-scale tract under 10 percent canopy and the seeps run again. Live oaks have an oak wilt window, February through June, and we mulch cedar around them without cutting a limb. Send me the survey and I will mark the oaks that stay.
Lot Clearing for New Homes in Granbury and Tolar
Granbury, TX issued 234 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, out of 258 for the county, up 83 percent on the year, and Tolar to the west is adding ranchettes on the same limestone. A half-acre lake lot is one day with the skid steer mulcher, $2,800, transport included from Weatherford. A wooded acre of cedar with the oaks kept and a dozen stumps is two days, and property owners get both numbers in writing at the site visit.
Rock sets the schedule here, not rain. Depending on site conditions, limestone and caliche near the surface add a day, because the teeth wear twice as fast and the operator slows to save them, and I say so before the price. Drainage on a lake lot runs straight to the water, so chips stay above the shoreline, and Brazos River Authority rules govern anything at the water's edge. Before we grind a stump we call 811, since a gas pipeline and buried electric follow US 377 under the cedar. Dirt moved inside a FEMA mapped floodplain along the Brazos or its draws needs a county floodplain permit first, and Site prep on my side ends at the rough grade. Send the plat and I will put in writing what it takes to make your property slab-ready at the on-site estimate.
Brush Clearing and Forestry Mulching Near Granbury
Forestry mulching is a land clearing method that uses specialized equipment to grind trees, brush and vegetation into mulch in one pass, mulched in place with nothing to pile, burn or haul. On cedar that matters more than anywhere, because a cedar pile is a fire waiting on a dry wind; the county judge or commissioners court declares a burn ban most dry summers and TCEQ outdoor burning rules govern piles the rest of the year. Near Granbury it is the cheapest way to clear land you want back in grass.
Cedar is the only crop in Texas nobody planted and everybody harvests. It does not resprout from the stump, only from seed, so one pass clears it and a bush hog every few years catches seedlings. Mesquite is the opposite: cut it and the root crown sends up a dozen stems, so we take the crown at grade and treat the stem that day. In light cedar under 30 percent canopy the skid steer makes 3 to 5 acres a day. Overgrown land that is areas with dense old-growth cedar at 50 percent canopy runs 1 to 2 acres a day, and large acreage clearing above 15 acres gets the 300-hp mulcher and the 8 ft head. We remove brush to grade and leave the site under two inches of chips that hold the thin topsoil. On our jobs in Hood County a hillside mulched in fall is in grass by the second summer; left alone it will overgrow with cedar in five.
How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Granbury?
Land clearing costs in the Granbury area run $2,800 for a half-acre lot and $900 to $4,000 an acre for cedar, set by canopy percent. The add-ons come first: rock or caliche near the surface adds a day, and ten or more stumps move the grinding to a day rate.
- Skid steer mulcher: $2,800 a day, transport included within 60 miles of Weatherford.
- 300-hp mulcher: $4,200 a day plus transport. Its 8 ft head handles anything on the tract.
- Cedar mulching: $900 to $1,400 an acre under 30 percent canopy, $1,800 to $2,600 medium, $3,000 to $4,000 dense old-growth cedar or mesquite.
- Grub, haul and rough grade to bare dirt: $2,000 to $4,500 an acre, thin brush at the low end.
- Stump grinding by diameter: $4 an inch, never less than $175 per stump.
- Bush hogging runs $60 to $90 an acre, $400 minimum; grubbing with the dozer runs $160 an hour, operator included.
- Haul-off runs $650 to $1,200 a load, and the minimum trip charge for any job is $1,100.
The total depends on the size of the tract, the canopy and the rock. I read cedar canopy the way I did for twelve years of EQIP brush plans, by pacing it off, and I walk the property with you so the number is one we both saw. A ranch tract under an NRCS brush management plan, practice 314, gets 50 to 75 percent of the payment-schedule rate back as EQIP cost-share. The on-site estimate is free.
