Land Clearing in Hood County, TX: Professional Land Clearing, Cedar Lake Lots and Pond Sites in Granbury, Tolar and Lipan

This county reads like the Hill Country with a Brazos River lake in the middle, and the number that sets the price is cedar canopy percent. Under 30 percent runs $900 to $1,400 an acre; old-growth cedar runs $3,000 to $4,000. Shallow limestone adds a day. Our Weatherford yard is 25 miles from Granbury, TX and the surrounding areas, so transport is included in the $2,800 day rate. Call (832) 987-3495 or send the form. Teo will call you back before the end of the business day.

Lot and Acreage Clearing for New Homes in Granbury and Lipan

The county permitted 258 single-family homes in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, up 83 percent, the fastest rise among the counties in Texas we serve. Master-planned communities on the lake are developer jobs. Our residential jobs are the homeowner on a wooded lake lot who wants the cedar out and the live oaks kept, and property owners on ten to forty acres to the west doing property development around a stock pond.

A half-acre cedar lot is one skid steer day, $2,800, if the rock stays down. Commercial development pads along US 377 are land clearing projects priced by the acre.

Forestry Mulching and Brush Clearing Across Hood County

Our mulching services take cedar canopy from 50 percent to under 5 in one pass and leave the live oaks. Cedar, which is ashe juniper on this limestone, regrows from seed and not the stump, so a mulched hillside stays open. AgriLife research and my own canopy readings agree that mature cedar intercepts the first inch of rain, and the seeps run again once it is gone. A cow will tell you where the water is before a hydrologist will.

Clearing brush on the mesquite flats toward Lipan runs like the Parker County job one county north: 8 acres of mesquite and post oak, two days, $8,400, bush hog each June. Selective clearing means we remove unwanted vegetation and undergrowth along the fence line and leave every oak over 8 inches. Removing vegetation this way puts the wood down as three inches of mulch for erosion control, no pile, no burn ban exposure. No pine and hardwood understory here.

How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Hood County?

Land clearing in Hood County runs $900 to $4,500 an acre, transport included, because the whole county sits inside 60 miles of our Weatherford yard. The extra-day rule is rock: limestone within a foot of the surface wears teeth and slows the head, so it adds a day, as in Blanco County.

  • Skid steer mulcher: $2,800 a day, transport included.
  • 300-hp mulcher, 8-foot head: $4,200 a day plus transport, equipment to handle old cedar.
  • Cedar mulching per acre: $900 to $1,400 under 30 percent canopy, $1,800 to $2,600 at medium cover, $3,000 to $4,000 dense.
  • Clearing to dirt with grading, rock permitting: $2,000 to $4,500 an acre.
  • Bush hogging: $60 to $90 an acre, $400 minimum. Haul-off: $650 to $1,200 per load, minimum trip $1,100.

Agricultural land here draws NRCS EQIP brush management cost-share, practice code 314, at 50 to 75 percent of the payment-schedule rate. Call (832) 987-3495 or send the form for a free quote.

Terrain, Soil and Vegetation Near Lake Granbury and the Brazos River

The county is limestone with a thin skin of soil: cedar, live oak and post oak on the hills, mesquite on the flats where a pasture was left to overgrow. The Brazos River is dammed into Lake Granbury through the middle, and the woodland along the river corridor is mapped floodplain. Near Lake Granbury the lots are steep, rocky and cedar-covered; site conditions decide which head goes on the trailer.

On our jobs along SH 144 I log two acres a day in medium cedar and one on rock.

Burn Bans and Other Rules Before Clearing Land in Hood County

Three rules govern clearing land throughout Hood County, and none is a state permit. The county judge or commissioners court declares a burn ban, and TCEQ outdoor burning rules govern every pile. The Brazos River Authority sets lakeshore rules on Lake Granbury, so clearing stops at the BRA line and the shoreline buffer needs their permit. The county issues floodplain development permits where FEMA maps the Brazos, so excavation and grading there wait on paper.

Texas A&M Forest Service puts the oak wilt window at February through June. I mulch cedar around live oaks in that window without wounding a limb, as I have since 2015. Ask Teo for the BRA check when you book.

Luanne Pruitt, 51, owns Pruitt Range & Brush and runs it from Johnson City in Blanco County, with crews in Lindale and Weatherford. She grew up on a cow-calf ranch near Llano. She spent 12 years as an NRCS field technician writing EQIP Brush Management plans for Texas ranchers, bought her first mulcher in 2014 when too many of those plans sat unexecuted, and has cleared cedar, mesquite, pine understory and homesite lots full time since 2015. How much does land clearing cost per acre here?

Cedar mulching runs $900 to $1,400 an acre under 30 percent canopy and up to $4,000 on dense old growth. Full clearing to dirt runs $2,000 to $4,500 an acre. Transport is included from Weatherford, and shallow limestone adds a day.

What is the cheapest way to clear an overgrown pasture?

Forestry mulching is the cheapest way to reclaim overgrown land on a cedar hillside you plan to keep. The cedar becomes chips on the slope, so there is no haul-off and no pile. Mulch will not transform rock into topsoil, but it holds the rain.

How long does a typical land clearing job take?

A half-acre to one-acre cedar lot is one skid steer day if the rock stays down. Five acres of medium cedar runs two to three days. Eight acres of mesquite ran two days in Parker County. Rock is the usual reason a schedule adds a day, and I probe for it first.

Do I need a permit to burn cleared brush in town?

Inside city limits, burning brush is generally prohibited, and the county judge can declare a burn ban for the unincorporated county whenever the drought index climbs. TCEQ outdoor burning rules cover every pile. We mulch where the brush stands, so there is nothing to burn and no permit to chase.

Who do I call for a land clearing service in Hood County, TX?

Call (832) 987-3495 or fill out the form. Teo will call you back before the end of the business day and ask the acreage, the road and whether the lot is on the lake. The site preparation quote comes after the on-site visit and the rock probe, in writing.
