Land Clearing Services Available in Burnet County
Our crews run six professional land clearing services on Highland Lakes ground. Forestry mulching for cedar brakes and mesquite flats. Lot clearing for a lake lot or a ranchette homesite. Brush clearing and underbrushing through a live oak woodland so grass returns. Stump grinding at $4 per inch of diameter, $175 minimum per stump. Tree clearing, site clearing and site preparation to dirt, with fence line and corridor cleanup. Dirt work services, grubbing and rough grading, at $160 an hour with operator. Slabs, wells, septic and house demolition are not mine; I know people who do them.
Lot Clearing and Acreage Prep in Marble Falls, Bertram and Granite Shoals
The county issued 734 single-family permits in the 2025 Census Building Permits Survey, and permits understate the work because rural tracts need none. Residential land clearing around Marble Falls is cedar and live oak on rock, and rock adds a day. A half-acre lot is one skid steer day, $2,800, site prep for the slab included. Small residential lots with 10 or more stumps go by the day. Ranchettes along SH 29 run 5 to 20 acres; the homeowner usually wants selective clearing for a pad and a view lane. Commercial development and commercial land clearing for master-planned communities take the same machines, more days.
Forestry Mulching and Clearing Brush on Granite and Limestone
Forestry mulching is how our crews take ashe juniper, the Hill Country's cedar, off a tract without a pile or a burn. The head grinds trees and brush standing, and the wood stays down as mulch over the undergrowth. Mulching services run $900 to $1,400 an acre under 30 percent canopy, $3,000 to $4,000 in old-growth. Every marked live oak stays. Texas A&M Forest Service sets the oak wilt wound window at February through June, and our crews cut no oak limb in it. AgriLife research shows mature cedar canopy intercepts the first inch of rain, which is why seeps return after a clearing. Granite does not care how new your mulcher teeth are.
How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Burnet County?
Land clearing in Burnet County runs $900 to $4,000 an acre for cedar by canopy percent and $2,000 to $4,500 an acre for full clearing to dirt. Rock or caliche adds a day on nearly every tract here, granite always does, and that goes in the quote first.
- Skid steer mulcher: $2,800 a day, transport included within 60 miles of Johnson City.
- 300-hp mulcher, 8 ft head, the granite machine: $4,200 a day plus transport.
- Cedar mulching: $900 to $1,400 light, $1,800 to $2,600 medium, $3,000 to $4,000 dense.
- Bush hogging, $60 to $90 an acre, $400 minimum.
Next door we cleared 42 acres in Blanco County at 55 percent canopy: 6 days on the 300-hp mulcher, $27,500 plus transport. The spring below the stock tank ran again. On agricultural land under an approved EQIP plan, NRCS cost-share pays 50 to 75 percent of the practice 314 rate. For a free quote, call (832) 987-3495 or send the form. Terrain, Soil and Vegetation From Lake LBJ to SH 29
Burnet County's ground is the Llano Uplift meeting the Edwards Plateau. North of Marble Falls, around Inks Lake and Lake Buchanan, it is pink granite with sandy pockets and post oak. South and east along SH 29 it is limestone and caliche with cedar at 40 to 70 percent canopy. Tracts near Lake LBJ are steep and rocky; mulching is the only method that pencils. The Colorado River arms carry FEMA mapped floodplain. Site conditions change inside a single fence here, so I walk drainage and slope before picking the machine. On granite and limestone alike, the mulch mat left down is the erosion control.
LCRA Shoreline, Warbler Season and Burn Bans Before You Clear
Four rules apply on Highland Lakes tracts; none is a state permit, because Texas has none. LCRA lakeshore and shoreline rules govern vegetation along Lake LBJ, Inks Lake and Lake Buchanan, and the LCRA easement gets checked first. The golden-cheeked warbler nests in mature cedar-oak canopy from March to July, so under TPWD and USFWS guidance we mulch mature canopy August through February. Burn bans come from the county judge or commissioners court and TCEQ outdoor burning rules govern every pile; we leave none. A county floodplain development permit applies before dirt moves in FEMA floodplain. When I wrote EQIP plans a missed rule cost a season, so now the quote names the ones on your tract.

The Highland Lakes draw weekend ranchers from more counties in Texas than I can name, and clearing land for a view of the water is Teo's most common call from here.
