Land Clearing Services in Spring Branch, TX
Pruitt Range & Brush provides land clearing for residential and commercial properties in Spring Branch, with the skid steer for lots and the 300-hp mulcher for ranch cedar. I run a land clearing company serving Hill Country ranchers first, so every project is scoped by canopy percent, stem size and slope before I name a price.
- Site prep for a homesite, barn or shop pad
- Brush clearing, cedar mulched in place at 2 to 4 inches
- Selective clearing that keeps the live oaks and the canyon view
- Full site clearing to dirt with rough grading and cleanup
- Stump grinding at $4 an inch, $175 minimum per stump
- Tree removal with haul-off at $650 to $1,200 a load
- Commercial land clearing services for commercial sites on US 281 and pipeline rows
Residential land clearing fills most of the week in Spring Branch, TX and the surrounding area. Commercial clearing for a commercial development runs at the same day rates. A professional land clearing service in Spring Branch quotes machine and days, not a vague range.
Lot Clearing for New Homes in Spring Branch and Bulverde
Spring Branch is unincorporated, so the Census Building Permits Survey counts it inside Comal County: 1,726 single-family permits in 2025, 756 of them on unincorporated land, down 24 percent from 2024. Rural tracts need no building permit, so permits understate the work. A half-acre pad is one skid steer day, $2,800, and we leave the site mulched with nothing to haul. Site preparation ends at rough grading. Excavation for a foundation, concrete, wells and septic are not mine. I know people who do.
The land clearing process here has two gates. Mapped Edwards Aquifer recharge land needs a TCEQ Water Pollution Abatement Plan before site work, and lake frontage falls under GBRA shoreline rules. Drainage on a slope lot is about controlling sheet flow once the cedar is gone, so the pad is graded to the natural draw and the mulch layer stays on the cut slopes. Cedar seedlings come up where cedar fell. The tree plans ahead. Send me the plat and I will walk the property with you.
Brush Clearing and Forestry Mulching Near Spring Branch
Forestry mulching is a land clearing method that uses specialized equipment to grind trees, brush and vegetation into mulch where they stand, and on these slopes it is the only method that leaves the soil in place. The county judge declares burn bans in dry months, TCEQ outdoor burning rules govern piles, and a mulched tract has nothing to light. The skid steer handles stems to about 8 inches. Areas with dense old-growth cedar go to the 300-hp mulcher with the 8 ft head at 6 to 8 acres a day.
Cedar regrows from seed, not the stump, so the mulched tract stays open as long as we grind the seedlings every few years. AgriLife research shows a mature cedar canopy intercepts the first inch of rain, and my canopy readings on tracts above the Guadalupe go in at 55 percent and come out under 5. Mature cedar-oak canopy is golden-cheeked warbler habitat across Comal County, so that work runs outside the March to July nesting window, and live oaks stay unwounded February to June for oak wilt. Selective property clearing is the way to clear overgrown land here: remove brush, keep the oaks, and make your property read as landscape again.
How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Spring Branch?
Land clearing costs in Spring Branch run $900 to $4,000 an acre for cedar, set by the canopy percent I read on the site visit. Rock adds a day on Hill Country tracts, and slope can add another; both go on the quote before the acre price. The total depends on the size of the tract, stem count and site conditions.
- Light cedar under 30 percent canopy: $900 to $1,400 an acre
- Medium cedar: $1,800 to $2,600 an acre
- Dense old-growth cedar or mesquite: $3,000 to $4,000 an acre
- Full clearing to dirt with rough grade: $2,000 to $4,500 an acre
- Skid steer mulcher $2,800 a day, transport included within 60 miles of Johnson City
- 300-hp mulcher $4,200 a day plus transport
- Dozer with operator $160 an hour; minimum trip $1,100
Large acreage clearing is quoted per acre, depending on site access. For a hillside comparison: 3 acres in Dripping Springs, selective cedar for the oaks and the view, took 2 skid steer days at $5,600. An EQIP plan approved under practice 314 pays 50 to 75 percent of the NRCS schedule rate. Call (832) 987-3495 or send the form. Teo calls back the same business day, before closing.
Serving Spring Branch, Bulverde, Canyon Lake, Blanco and Smithson Valley
Our crews run land clearing services across the greater San Antonio area, and Spring Branch is the far north edge of the San Antonio metro where ranch tracts start. Bulverde, 10 minutes south, is the same cedar on flatter ground. Smithson Valley shares the recharge map, and lake tracts add the GBRA rules. Blanco, up US 281 in my home county, is where the 300-hp machine spends most of its spring. Services throughout the Hill Country run on one price sheet. On our jobs in Comal County the untouched tracts read 45 to 70 percent canopy. Property owners can read the Comal County page or the Hill Country region page.
