Land Clearing Services in Aubrey

Pruitt Range & Brush provides land clearing, lot clearing, brush removal, stump grinding and rough grading for residential and commercial properties in Aubrey, TX and the surrounding area. Six scopes cover every project we take in horse country:

  • Residential land clearing for a house pad or barn pad: brush to grade, rough grade, cleanup.
  • Pasture reclaim and property clearing on 2 to 40 acres, mesquite and hackberry out, post oak kept.
  • Commercial land clearing services and commercial clearing for commercial sites and commercial development along US 380.
  • Selective clearing, professional clearing and landscape clearing around a standing house, arena or run-in shed.
  • Tree removal of stems to 8 inches, bigger trunks cut and hauled by the load.
  • Land improvement, full site clearing and site preparation, all stopping at the rough grade.

Site work stops at the rough grade. Excavation for a foundation, wells, septic and house demolition belong to other trades, and I know people who do them. On horse acreage our professional land clearing service watches one thing a general contractor misses: the chip layer. Horses on bare sand churn it to dust; on two inches of hackberry chips they have footing until the grass comes in. Send the survey and I will mark the oaks that stay.

Lot Clearing for New Homes in Aubrey and Pilot Point

Aubrey issued 396 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey and Pilot Point issued 573, so the pasture between them is turning into lots at a steady clip. A half-acre lot is one day with the skid steer mulcher, $2,800, transport included from Weatherford. Two acres of hackberry and mesquite with a dozen stumps is two or three days. Both numbers go in writing for property owners at the site visit.

Depending on site conditions the soil sets the week. East of FM 2931 the blackland holds water from November to April and wet ground adds a day; west of it the sand drains and we work most weeks of the year. Drainage on the clay side means old cotton terraces, which the rough grade cuts out. Before we grind a stump we call 811, since a gas pipeline and buried electric follow US 380 under the brush. Dirt moved in the FEMA mapped floodplain along the Lake Ray Roberts creeks needs a county floodplain permit first, and I pull that map before the price. My site prep ends at the rough grade. Send me the plat and the on-site estimate will tell you what it takes to make your property ready for a slab or a barn.

Brush Clearing and Forestry Mulching Near Aubrey

Forestry mulching is a land clearing method that uses specialized equipment to grind trees, brush and vegetation into mulch in a single pass, mulched in place with no pile to burn or haul. Near Aubrey it is the cheapest way to clear land that is staying pasture, and it keeps you out from under the burn ban the county judge or commissioners court declares most dry summers and the TCEQ outdoor burning rules on piles the rest of the year.

A horse will stand in the shade of a hackberry and go hungry under it. Hackberry and mesquite shade out the grass, and mesquite pulls the water the grass needed, so a brushy ten acres carries fewer animal units than a clean five. Bush hogging alone fails on mesquite because the root crown sends up new stems the same summer, so the mulcher cuts the crown at grade and we treat the stem that day. In light cover the skid steer makes 3 to 5 acres a day. Overgrown land that is areas with dense bois d'arc and 8-inch hackberry runs 1 to 2 acres a day. Large acreage clearing over 15 acres gets the 300-hp mulcher and the 8 ft head. We remove brush to grade and leave the site under two inches of chips. On our jobs in this county a pasture cleared in fall is grazing by the second summer; left alone, it will overgrow again in five.

How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Aubrey?

Land clearing costs in the Aubrey area run $2,800 for a half-acre lot and $900 to $4,000 an acre to mulch, set by canopy percent. The add-ons come before the price: wet blackland adds a day in winter on the clay side, and ten or more stumps move the grinding to a day rate.

  • Skid steer mulcher: $2,800 a day, transport included within 60 miles of our Weatherford yard.
  • 300-hp mulcher: $4,200 a day plus transport. Its 8 ft head handles anything on the tract.
  • Per-acre mulching: $900 to $1,400 light (under 30 percent canopy), $1,800 to $2,600 medium, $3,000 to $4,000 for dense old mesquite.
  • Grub, haul and rough grade to bare dirt: $2,000 to $4,500 an acre, thin brush at the low end.
  • Stump grinding by diameter: $4 an inch, never less than $175 per stump.
  • Bush hogging runs $60 to $90 an acre, $400 minimum; grubbing with the dozer runs $160 an hour, operator included.
  • Haul-off runs $650 to $1,200 a load, and the minimum trip charge for any job is $1,100.

The total depends on the size of the tract, the canopy and the ground. Thirty percent canopy is the line between the light and medium rates, and I read it by pacing it off the way I did for twelve years of EQIP brush plans. I walk the property with you so we both see the same number. A tract under an NRCS plan for practice 314 gets 50 to 75 percent of the payment-schedule rate back as EQIP cost-share, and ag-exempt horse acreage often qualifies. The on-site estimate is free.
