Land Clearing in Justin, TX: Lot, Brush and Forestry Mulching

Justin sits on the Cross Timbers sand along FM 156, northwest of Fort Worth, where post oak, mesquite and a little cedar hold the old pastures and hackberry fills the creek bottoms. The lots run one to ten acres. Our Weatherford crew runs the land clearing service in Justin, 35 minutes up FM 51 and US 81, inside the free transport ring. I have cleared this sand since 2015. One call to (832) 987-3495, or the form, and Teo will call you back before the end of the business day.

Land Clearing Services in Justin

Pruitt Range & Brush provides land clearing, lot clearing, brush removal, stump grinding and rough grading for residential and commercial properties in Justin, TX and the surrounding area. The work in this corner of Denton County runs:

  • Residential land clearing for a house pad on acreage: brush to grade, rough grade, cleanup.
  • Pasture reclaim and property clearing on 5 to 50 acres, mesquite and cedar mulched, post oak kept.
  • Commercial land clearing services and commercial clearing for commercial sites and commercial development along FM 156 and I-35W.
  • Selective clearing, professional clearing and landscape clearing around a standing house.
  • Tree removal of stems to 8 inches with the mulcher; bigger trunks cut and hauled.
  • Site preparation, land improvement on old pasture and full site clearing, finished at the rough grade.

Site work ends at the rough grade on every project. Excavation for foundations, wells, septic and house demolition are other trades, and I know people who do them. What our professional land clearing service brings to a Cross Timbers lot is a read on the post oak. Post oak will not tolerate fill over its roots or a machine parked under its crown, and the tree dies three years after the house is built. We work from outside the drip line and mulch toward open ground. Send me the survey and I will mark the keepers.

Lot Clearing for New Homes in Justin and Northlake

Justin, TX issued 363 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, and Northlake next door is building faster on the I-35W side. A half-acre lot is one day with the skid steer mulcher, $2,800, transport included from Weatherford. An acre of post oak saplings and mesquite with a dozen stumps is two days. Property owners get both figures on paper at the site visit.

Sand is the good news on this side of the county. Depending on site conditions we work most weeks of the year here, where a blackland lot east of I-35 would sit wet from November to April. Drainage still matters: Denton Creek and its branches put a good share of Justin inside a FEMA mapped floodplain, and dirt moved there needs a Denton County floodplain permit before anything starts. Before we grind we call 811, because a gas pipeline and buried electric cross the FM 156 corridor under the brush. Nobody in Texas has ever run out of brush. Plenty have run out of patience with it, which is usually when the phone rings. The site prep I do stops at the rough grade. Send the plat and the on-site estimate will tell you what it takes to make your property slab-ready.

Brush Clearing and Forestry Mulching Near Justin

Forestry mulching is a land clearing method that uses specialized equipment to grind trees, brush and vegetation into mulch in one pass, mulched in place with no pile, no burn and no haul. Near Justin that is the cheapest way to clear land that stays pasture, and it sidesteps the burn ban the county judge or commissioners court declares most dry summers and the TCEQ outdoor burning rules on piles the rest of the year.

Mesquite on Cross Timbers sand is the main job. Bush hogging alone fails because the root crown sends up a dozen stems the same summer, so the mulcher cuts the crown at grade and we treat the stem that day. Cedar, which is ashe juniper, shows up on the rockier rises west of town and goes the same way; it does not resprout from the stump, only from seed. In light mesquite the skid steer makes 3 to 5 acres a day. Overgrown land that is areas with dense post oak saplings and 8-inch hackberry in the bottoms runs 1 to 2 acres a day. Large acreage clearing over 15 acres gets the 300-hp mulcher and the 8 ft head. We remove brush to grade and leave the site under two inches of chips, which hold the sand against wind until grass takes. On our jobs in this county a pasture mulched in fall is grazing by the second summer. Left alone, it will overgrow in five.

How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Justin?

Land clearing costs in the Justin area run $2,800 for a half-acre lot and $900 to $4,000 an acre to mulch, set by canopy percent. The add-ons come first: a stump count over ten moves the grinding to a day rate, and wet ground adds a day on the clay lots east of I-35.

  • Skid steer mulcher: $2,800 a day, transport included within 60 miles of our Weatherford yard.
  • Big machine, the 300-hp mulcher with an 8 ft head, runs $4,200 a day plus transport.
  • Mulching: $900 to $1,400 an acre under 30 percent canopy, $1,800 to $2,600 medium, $3,000 to $4,000 dense old mesquite or cedar.
  • Scraped to dirt and rough graded, debris hauled: $2,000 to $4,500 an acre depending on density.
  • Stump grinding: measure the trunk, $4 an inch, $175 minimum per stump.
  • Dozer grubbing at $160 an hour with operator. Bush hogging at $60 to $90 an acre, $400 minimum.
  • Minimum trip $1,100. Haul-off, when the builder wants bare dirt, $650 to $1,200 a load.

The total depends on the size of the tract, the canopy and the ground. I read canopy by pacing it off, the way I did for twelve years of EQIP brush plans, and I walk the property with you so the number is one we both saw. A tract under an NRCS brush management plan, practice 314, gets 50 to 75 percent of the payment-schedule rate back as EQIP cost-share. Send the form or call (832) 987-3495, and the on-site estimate costs nothing.

Serving Justin and Nearby Northlake, Roanoke, Ponder and Argyle

Justin is twenty minutes from the Weatherford yard's north route, so the towns around it are regular stops:

  • Northlake and Roanoke, east along I-35W and SH 114: estate lots with post oak to keep.
  • Ponder, north on FM 156: Cross Timbers pasture, mesquite and cedar, workable in winter.
  • Argyle, east on FM 407: larger lots on mixed soil, oaks staked before the machine starts.

Our services in Justin are the same list and the same prices in every one of those towns. A land clearing company serving this side of the county schedules sand in the wet months and clay in late summer. We run land clearing services across Dallas-Fort Worth and the same services throughout the DFW area and the rest of North Texas from one yard west of Fort Worth. The land clearing Justin owners ask for most is a mesquite pasture at 3 to 5 acres a day, same price here as anywhere in the DFW metro. Tell Teo your town and your acreage and he will put you on the crew's board.
